June 2018,
commission, The Netherlands
By request, this Weissenborn had to be made from materials that contains no animal products, and responsible wood.
After discussion details, the chosen wood became oakwood from The Netherlands (Twente), walnut and maple. I did use oakwood already before for Weissenborn and other instruments. Pearl used for the logo and fretboard positions became wood. Bone saddles became white tusq. All parts I usually glue with hide glue would be glued with Titebond. Frensh polish for the finish is made from a resin from a beetle. This finish material is replaced by a plant based wood oil.
The result was a well balanced Weissenborn with a surprising nice high respond and a very good string balance. A real one-off, custom made to very specific wishes.
